More than 70 former child soldiers, which included 24 girls, were recently registered in South Darfur for rehabilitation and reintegration. The former members of the Sudan Liberation Army / Historical Leadership (SLA/HL) were released in to the communities in 2011.
We ask a series of questions about the situation of these children from the moment they are released by this armed group until they are registered in government programs. On one hand, these children are released, but there are few who have families to whom they can return. Therefore, other children end in the streets or committing crimes to survive. Other children return to their communities, but after the atrocities and crimes they committed are not received and are rejected. And, there are other children who understand the profitability of the business of war and decide to stay there taking profits from drug trafficking, arms trafficking and services as mercenaries.

Más de 70 ex niños soldados fueron registrados en Sudán del Sur para rehabilitación y reintregración. Si bien, fueron liberados en 2011 por el Sudan Liberation Army / Historical Leadership (SLA/HL), hasta ahora (dos años después) son registrados para que accedan a los beneficios de los programas de reintegración.
Podemos plantearnos una serie de cuestionamientos acerca de la situación de estos niños desde que son liberados por este grupo armado organizado hasta que son registrados en los programas del gobierno. Por un lado, estos niños son liberados pero son pocos los que tienen familias con las que puedan regresar. Por lo tanto, terminan habitando en las calles o delinquiendo para sobrevivir. Hay otros niños que deciden volver a sus comunidades, pero después de las atrocidades y crímenes cometidos no son recibidos y los rechazan. Y hay otros niños que entienden la rentabilidad del negocio de la guerra y deciden permanecer en él sacando beneficios del narcotráfico, tráfico de armas y servicios como mercenarios.
Sin la atención psicosocial necesaria, estos niños no tienen chance de reintegrarse a la vida civil como se espera.
